KTE 1: Recruitment & Enrollment of BIPOC Candidates

CSU EPPs form deep partnerships with school districts and create a shared vision of effective K-12 instruction that includes a mutual commitment to the recruitment, preparation, and retention of teachers who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

Aim

In partnership with the Oroville School District, Chico team aims to increase the percentage of BIPOC students enrolled in our teacher credential programs as compared to BIPOC students enrolled as undergraduates so that by May of 2024 the difference between them is less than 50% as compared to 2021-2022.

Key Leverage Areas Being Addressed

The Chico team is focusing on two drivers to increase the diversity of their candidate pipeline. The first involves partnerships with K12 to attract paraprofessionals into credential programs, and the second is the development of “grow your own” dual enrollment programs with partners at Oroville High School to attract high schoolers into the teaching profession.
